The University of New Orleans:
a Military-Friendly Institution

The University of New Orleans is committed to providing quality education for students with varying backgrounds, age, and experience.  Our student population is remarkably diverse in many ways—for example, consider the age of the students in any UNO classroom, which can range from 18 to 70!  The broad spectrum of knowledge and experience our students bring to their education fosters the kind of intellectual and cultural exchange that is essential to higher education.  Your military experience contributes significantly to this diversity, making you a valuable member of our student community.

All educational assistance programs available to military personnel  and their dependents or spouses are provided through the Veterans Affairs section of the Office of the Registrar.  These programs include  the following:

  • Educational Assistance Test Program (Section 901)
  • Montgomery GI Bill - Active Duty (MGIB-AD) (Ch 30)
  • Montgomery GI Bill - Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR)  (Ch 1606)
  • National Call to Service Program
  • The Post 9/11 GI Bill(Ch 33)
  • Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP)  (Ch 1607)
  • Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance Program (DEA)  (Ch 35)
  • Veterans Educational Assistance Program (VEAP)  (Ch 32)

If you are interested in receiving the assistance provided by any of theEagle Symbol above programs, your first step is to complete an application to the University of New Orleans. Help is available in both the Office of Admissions (admissions@uno.edu or 504-280-6595 or 800/256-5UNO) and the Office of the Registrar (registrar@uno.edu or 504-280-6992) for applicants who want information and guidance about programs of study at UNO, their admission requirements, and the process of completing an application.  Following are some basic questions and answers.
